Gonna Make It Chocolate Rain On The Floor
Jul 25th, 2007 by Max
I feel that I must post this Youtube right this second because even though I am not responsible for it it somehow still manages to be one of the awesomest videos I’ve ever seen. It is an original song called “Chocolate Rain” by a young man named Tay Zonday. Thank you to Sachar for sending it to me and literally changing my life. We are so obsessed with it now. You should really watch it all the way through, four of five times, like we did. (Right before we watched it another twenty times.)
Max: What’s the word to describe something you can’t get out of your head?
Sachar: Zonday.
Mr. Zonday is a ridiculous vocalist with a very low voice and a love of almost nonsensical lyrics. As a grad student in something or other, he has a few choice words for institutionalized racism.
Chocolate rain…the prisons make you wonder where it went…
Chocolate rain…build a tent and say the world is dry…
Chocolate rain…forecasted to be falling yesterday…
Chocolate rain…raise your neighborhood insurance rates…
Chocolate rain…worse than swearing worse than calling names…
Chocolate rain…say it publicly and you’re insane…
Chocolate rain…dirty secrets of economy…
Chocolate rain…turns that body into GDP…
Chocolate rain…flipping cars in France the other day…
Chocolate rain…cleans the sewers out beneath Mumbai…
Chocolate rain…angels cry and shakes their heads in shame…
Hot damn. That song is so good it almost makes me want to strangle a racist, or our leaders, or the weathermen who are all like “there’s definitely no chocolate rainstorm coming” because they are all wrong. I tried to make my own lyrics, but it is really hard.
Chocolate rain…I wear hats but know what must be true…
Chocolate rain…asks her to dance but cannot look away…
Chocolate rain…a young wolf raises him inside the dark…
Chocolate rain…the sounds of yelling I don’t try to block…
Chocolate rain…why are all the houses white…
Chocolate rain…pushing shopping carts uphill…
CHOCOLATE RAINNNNN…
OK it’s not that hard but I don’t have a voice that sounds like Optimus Prime swallowed Paul Robeson. Check out more of Tay’s music videos here.

Chocolate raaainnn…. beep boop bop boop beep boop bop boop boop…
that’s all I got.
also, his name is an anagram for Tad Zany, Yo which I love/is a huge understatement.
yes, i love this too. the best part has got to be the last 10-15 seconds. when he just stands there. and you wonder if there’s more coming. because, there honestly could be. but there’s no more, and you realize this when he looks to the camera and then slowly ducks out of the frame. i love this guy.
I want to meet the shit out of this guy. He is FASCINATING. Also, I just realized that my animated GIF keeps the beat with lots of different house and electroclash stuff and it is absolutely mesmerizing to listen to the music while staring at the animation. (My dayjob is very busy and important.)
He looks and sings like the love child of Sammy Davis Jr. and Liza Minnelli.
(Substitute Nipsy Russell for Sammy if you prefer)
Can anyone verify this?
I can verify.
First I was going to say the Zonday was more Sammy Dee, but then I watched this Nipsey Russell sketch:

That video is *all* about chocolate rain, seriously.
Also starring Dom Deluise, Jack Benny, and Dean Martin.

This morning on the bus, as I gazed out the window at the tough streets of Georgetown, “Chocolate Rain” popped into my head. Thanks a lot, Max.
I watched the clip and learned a new joke: the one Nipsey breaks out about Jack Benny having short arms and low pockets (i.e., being cheap).
Good times.
Chocolate rain…ride the bus and then you wonder why…
Chocolate rain…even the driver knows it’s not the same…
Chocolate rain…getting further with its every stop…
CHOCOLATE RAIN!
This guy looks like the forbidden love child of Lou Diamond Phillips and post-plastic surgery Janet Jackson. I dare you to contradict me.
The Kid’s got real talent. Which is why I expect better content from Max.
